Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

18th February 2021 By Zoe Woodworth

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 10-16 May 2021. The theme is nature and the environment.

Why have we chosen nature and the environment for 2021?
We have chosen ‘Nature and the environment’ as the theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 10-16 May 2021!

The evidence is clear that access to nature is crucial for our mental health and millions of people re-discovered that during lockdowns this year. However, this was not the same for all of us. We want to explore what the barriers are and ensure everyone is able to share in the natural world and experience the mental health benefits.

The week will be an opportunity to open our eyes to the power of nature.

We have set the theme, organised and hosted Mental Health Awareness Week for the last 21 years, during which time the event has grown to become one of the biggest awareness weeks across the UK and globally.

The Week is an opportunity for people to talk about all aspects of mental health, with a focus on providing help and advice.

How can I get involved?
Love the theme as much as we do? Then keep your eyes peeled on this page, sign up to our newsletter and follow our social media acccounts for updates on the week. More information on how to get involved is coming soon.

Youth MHFA in Schools programme

29th June 2017 By Zoe Woodworth

Youth MHFA in Schools launches

This month, MHFA England is proud to deliver the first courses of the Youth MHFA in Schools programme, a Department of Health-funded initiative that we are leading to upskill school staff in MHFA. By the end of year one of the programme, at least one person in a third of all state secondary schools in England, around 1,000 school staff, will receive the training and become Youth MHFA Champions. A similar number of courses will be delivered in years two and three so that by 2020 around 3,000 school staff will have MHFA skills. To date we have received widespread media coverage, including TV and radio coverage on the BBC.

Here at On Track to Health & Wellbeing we are proud to be part of this national campaign.

It’s estimated that three children in every class have a diagnosable mental health issue. With exam stress at fever pitch at this time of year it’s hoped that this skills-based training will, for example, enable teachers to better spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health this this kind of stress can evoke, and guide young people to the appropriate support. In the long-term we hope this programme will help to build a future where schools are mentally healthier places, where discussing mental health issues is normalised and where young people are better supported when it comes to their mental wellbeing.
